Records read 21 October 2026
Before you fill in a quote form, see what the government record says about the mover. We read all 38 by hand on 21 October 2026, and the date is on every card.

Open →We looked up 38 moving companies that sell moves on Long Island and read each one’s federal record on 21 October 2026. The results split four ways.
24 hold authorized interstate carrier authority on FMCSA’s SAFER system.
9 have an active USDOT number but no interstate authority on file, which is not the same as unlicensed; a mover that stays inside New York answers to NYSDOT instead.
4 have no federal record we could find under the name on their website.
1 prints a USDOT number that SAFER lists as inactive.
Only 4 of the 38 print a price on their own site for a move or for the liability sold on a move. The other 34 send you to a quote form. This site puts those facts in front of you before you fill in that form, with the date we read each record and the lookup you can run yourself.
Every company was checked the same way.
We opened its FMCSA SAFER snapshot and copied the USDOT number, legal name, address, entity type, operating authority line, MC number, power units, drivers and MCS-150 date.
Then we read its own website and recorded the numbers it prints, any rate, and its wording on estimates, deposits and valuation.
Where the two disagree we print both. Tri-State Area Movers claims 60+ trucks on its site; its federal record lists 2 power units.
Two things could not be checked for anyone.
FMCSA’s Licensing and Insurance pages returned only a blank form with a challenge question, so insurance on file is could not check for all 38.
NYSDOT’s CarCert search is marked Functionality Under Development, so the New York State household goods certificate is also could not check for all 38.
NYSDOT will confirm a mover by phone at (518) 457-6512 or by email at nymoving@dot.ny.gov if you give the exact company name.
Only 5 of the 38 sites say which kind of estimate they give.
Samonas, Maffucci and LIM Movers are the only 3 sites that print a valuation figure. The rest print licensed and insured or nothing.
Eight companies here are van line agents, and an interstate job booked through an agent may run on the van line’s USDOT number.
Each figure is first party, read 21 October 2026, and each company’s record sits next to it on the rates page.
A New York mover files a tariff with NYSDOT with all rates shown, and NYSDOT says it is illegal to discount off that tariff.
FMCSA says a rate quote is not an estimate and that an interstate mover must do a physical survey, on site or virtual.
The directory shows one card per company: the federal record on the first line, the rate on the second.
Open A profileEach profile repeats the full record with the date, lists what the site says about estimates, deposits and valuation, and ends with the questions we would ask before booking.
Open The records pageThe records page puts all 38 in one table with the mismatches noted.
Open The rates pageThe rates page prints every published figure as written.
OpenEvery company is linked out to its own site, and every page carries a correction route.
The rule that matters
A SAFER record that reads Not Authorized means no interstate operating authority is on file. It says nothing about a New York State certificate for moves inside the state, which NYSDOT issues separately and which we could not check online. Read the carrier or broker guide before you judge a company by one word.
The directory
The record line comes from SAFER on 21 October 2026. The rate line is what the company prints on its own site, which is usually nothing.

That is the state of pricing on Long Island, and it is why every card leads with the record instead of a number nobody printed. The four who do print one are on their own page.

How to use this site
Open the SAFER snapshot. Read the operating status, the entity type and the cargo line. Our card does this for you, dated.
Binding or non binding, and what it includes. New York requires an order for service with specific contents for in state moves.
Released value is 60 cents a pound per article under the federal rule. Decide whether that is enough before moving day, not after.
