Home/Long Island to Florida Movers
Route page, New York to Florida
Mineola to Tampa is 1,159 miles via I-95 South, and Jacksonville, the nearest of the five Florida cities we measured, is 962 miles (Google Maps, read 21 October 2026, passenger car routing). A move that long crosses state lines, which places it under FMCSA; NYSDOT says that once a shipment crosses a state line, jurisdiction is federal. That makes one question central: does the company hold interstate operating authority in its own name?
We checked all 38 Long Island movers in our file against FMCSA’s SAFER system on 21 October 2026. Twenty four show operating authority AUTHORIZED for household goods; 14 do not, and some of those 14 advertise Florida moves anyway. This page lists the 24 by name and USDOT number and notes which companies name Florida on their own sites. It prints the only published transit window we found, Allied’s 7 to 21 days or more, and the federal protections that attach to an interstate move.
We read Google Maps directions from Mineola, New York 11501 to five Florida cities on 21 October 2026, taking the fastest route shown. Every route ran via I-95 South and was flagged for tolls. Google noted that the Jacksonville route avoided road closures on I-95 South at the time, so that figure may shift. These are car distances; no mover in our file publishes its own mileage.
| Destination | Miles | Route shown | Alternate shown |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jacksonville | 962 | via I-95 S (avoiding road closures at time read) | none shown |
| Orlando | 1,104 | via I-95 S | none shown |
| Tampa | 1,159 | via I-95 S | 1,208 via I-95 S and I-75 S |
| West Palm Beach | 1,246 | via I-95 S | none shown |
| Naples | 1,318 | via I-95 S | 1,366 via I-95 S and I-75 S |
FMCSA publishes no table tying miles to days. The mover must deliver on the agreed date or within the agreed spread on the order for service, with reasonable dispatch. It must notify you at its own expense as soon as a delay becomes apparent (FMCSA Subpart F explainer and 49 CFR 375.603, read 21 October 2026).
The one carrier statement we found is a blog post on Allied Van Lines’ site by Ryan Cox, dated 30 June 2026 on the page. It says spreads may range from 7 to 21 days or more depending on the length of the move, and describes guaranteed delivery as a 1 to 2 day window (first party: Allied, read 21 October 2026). It gives no mileage bands, and nothing more precise exists in our research.
One Long Island site prints its own window. LIM Movers’ home page says 5 to 10 business days with one week of free storage for its Virginia through Florida pricing (first party). We found no federal record for LIM under the names we searched. The cost guide prints the marketplace figures for the lane.
The table lists every company in our file whose SAFER snapshot showed operating authority AUTHORIZED for Motor Carrier of Household Goods on 21 October 2026, with the USDOT number of that record and the town the company gives.
Two entries are flagged. Safeway Moving’s site puts it in Fort Lauderdale and its record in New Chicago, Indiana. Two Men and a Truck’s Long Island branch runs under a licensed entity in Elmsford, Westchester County, per the FMCSA record. Jernick has two records, one authorized and one not.
Where a site prints a different USDOT number from the one on the authorized record, the table uses the record; Hall Lane prints North American Van Lines’ number and Quality prints Wheaton’s. Our records page prints both numbers for each.
Insurance on file is could not check for every company, because FMCSA’s Licensing and Insurance pages returned only a blank form on 21 October 2026; the AUTHORIZED line comes from the SAFER snapshot. A New York State household goods certificate is also could not check, since NYSDOT’s carrier search was marked Under Development that day. To ask NYSDOT directly, call (518) 457-6512 or email nymoving@dot.ny.gov.

NOT AUTHORIZED on a SAFER record means no interstate operating authority is on file with FMCSA. It does not mean the company is unlicensed for moves inside New York, and SAFER itself notes that the status does not apply to intrastate operations. The 14 split three ways (FMCSA record, read 21 October 2026).
The Moving Genie, A & J Moving & Storage, Military Movers of America, Luis Moving Corporation, Get Moving USA, Despatch of Southampton, Dunbar Moving, All Terrain Moving and Avatar Relocation.
LIM Movers, Flex Moving & Storage, Forever Safe Moving and Storage and Charles Wood Moving, under the names we searched. A Brooklyn record named Flex Moving Inc exists at USDOT 3610638, unconfirmed as the same company.
Long Island Moving & Storage prints USDOT 578078, which SAFER lists as inactive.
Several of the 14 advertise long distance work. Despatch of Southampton and Avatar Relocation describe themselves as Atlas Van Lines agents and Forever Safe as an Allied agent (all first party). An agent’s interstate job may run under the van line’s authority, so ask whose USDOT number will appear on the bill of lading. The carrier or broker guide explains why that number decides whose tariff and whose liability you get.
Among the 24 authorized companies, 12 name Florida as a destination on their sites (all first party, read 21 October 2026).
The rest of the 24 advertise long distance, nationwide or interstate work without naming the state. Safeway, headquartered in Fort Lauderdale by its site, says it covers all 48 contiguous states. All The Right Moves and Celebrity Moving hold authority but do not advertise interstate moves on the pages we read.
Outside the authorized group, LIM Movers prints Florida prices and Charles Wood has a Florida route page. Neither has an active federal record we could find.

Verity Van Lines, Harbor, LM & Sons, Morton J. Lemkau, Collegiate and MJ Moving: each names Florida among its long distance destinations.

At the Florida end, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services registers movers under Chapter 507, Florida Statutes. FDACS says the chapter requires any person engaged in intrastate moving to register, regardless of local licensing, and that failure to comply can bring a cease and desist order and fines of up to $5,000. Registration runs two years at $300 per year, so $600 at application or renewal (FDACS, read 21 October 2026).
The statute says each mover and moving broker must register with the department (507.03). An estimate and contract must be provided in writing before any moving service, with an itemized breakdown of all costs and the acceptable forms of payment clearly disclosed (507.05).
A mover must relinquish goods and place them inside the dwelling unless the shipper has not tendered the contracted amount, and may not refuse to relinquish prescription medicines and goods for use by children (507.06). Withholding goods against the shipper’s wishes once payment is made is a prohibited act under 507.07 (read 21 October 2026).
Florida’s Attorney General issued an alert on 1 July 2024 (read 21 October 2026). It says moving brokers are now banned from providing contracts that include estimated moving costs. Refusing a lawful order to return belongings is now a third degree felony with fines of up to $50,000.
None of this governs your Long Island to Florida move directly. Once a shipment has crossed a state line, jurisdiction is federal, even if the move began or ended in New York (NYSDOT Moving page, read 21 October 2026). Chapter 507 matters if a Florida company handles a leg inside Florida, such as delivery out of storage.
Five protections attach to any interstate move, and each has a rule behind it. The estimates guide and the valuation guide print the wording.
movers and brokers must give you Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move and the Ready to Move brochure under 49 CFR 375.213, with the written estimate. The current booklet is revised October 2022 (FMCSA, read 21 October 2026).
the mover must give a written estimate of all charges, based on a physical survey, which 49 CFR 375.103 defines as on site or virtual; a rate quote is not an estimate. A binding estimate guarantees the price. Guaranteed not to exceed, which MJ Moving uses on its site, is an industry term we could not find in any FMCSA definition.
on a nonbinding estimate the mover may not collect more than 110 percent of the estimate at delivery (49 CFR 375.405 and 375.703). Added services the mover deems necessary after the bill of lading is issued are billed after 30 days (375.403(a)(8)).
released value is 60 cents per pound per article and costs nothing. Full value protection carries a $6.00 per pound minimum under the October 2022 handbook, while FMCSA’s glossary still shows $4.00 per pound or $5,000, whichever is greater; we print both. Written claims are due within 9 months of delivery.
under 49 CFR 375.211 the carrier must offer an arbitration program. It is binding for claims of $10,000 or less if you request it, and the arbitrator must decide within 60 days of written notice. For claims over $10,000 the carrier must also agree (eCFR, read 21 October 2026).
Google Maps puts Mineola at 962 miles from Jacksonville, 1,104 from Orlando, 1,159 from Tampa, 1,246 from West Palm Beach and 1,318 from Naples, all via I-95 South by passenger car routing (read 21 October 2026).
No agency publishes a transit table. The only carrier figure we found is Allied’s statement that spreads may range from 7 to 21 days or more (blog post dated 30 June 2026). Your window is whatever is written on the order for service.
No mover in our file with a federal record prints a Florida price; LIM Movers prints Florida prices on its home page and has no record we could find. The marketplace figures for the lane are on our cost guide, each with its source and date.
On 21 October 2026, 24 of the 38 companies in our file showed operating authority AUTHORIZED for household goods on SAFER; 22 of those are based on Long Island. They are listed by USDOT number above.
A Long Island to Florida move is interstate and sits with FMCSA. Florida’s Chapter 507 registration with FDACS applies to intrastate moving inside Florida, such as a separate delivery out of Florida storage.
On a nonbinding estimate, 110 percent of the estimate (49 CFR 375.405 and 375.703). On a binding estimate, the exact estimate plus any added services you agreed to.
